Meet Dolly The Dummy

Meet Dolly, she is a Dressmakers Dummy {Frock Dummy to me} who I picked up off a street throw out. I couldn't pick her up fast enough and whisk her to live with me. Imagine her being lonely and cold on the street, I couldn't leave a girl hanging like that. So off she was whisked and given prime position in my bedroom with all my accessories next to her to make her feel at home.
Now Dolly has certainly earned her keep as she will try on any frock or accessory I throw her way and you know what she never gives me an ounce of trouble. That is a great thing I'm telling you.
So today I've given Dolly a new task, to show some ways I look at an critique my frocks and pin up outfits. She is really a Pin up girls' friend.

Big Hair Don't Care

I have always loved styling my hair. During the years I have had many different styles, some I'd rather forget, lol. I have very thick dark hair and it is a blessing in the styles that I love. Growing up vintage styles for me meant Priscilla Presley and big hair styles, beehives, the wet set curls and the styles of the 1950's where hairspray was needed like no other, lol.
Fast forward to 2016 and since I've been pursuing my dream of dressing and living a Pin up Vintage style my hair has been part of my outfit. My most favourite is the Beehive. It's a style that I gravitate to and I just can't get enough of it. There is a couple of ways I do the Beehive. The easiest by far is using a Bumpits. You can purchase them from EBay and they are not expensive and make the whole hair style so much easier to achieve. Another style that I have been trying is the wet set curl. My hair needs serious time to take a curl and I have found that the curl I like is not always achieved via a hot roller set or a curling wand. The other benefit of the wet set is that you get days and days out of the curl. It is a style that needs practice and the brush out is something I've got used to. The best lesson I learned from Miss Victory Violet and her videos was to brush out and then to brush out some more. There are great videos and tutorials on the wet set. I found the best thing was to practice and practice some more. I also can't go past a braid. I've been braiding my hair for too many years to count and I love all the different hairstyles you can create.
Have you tried a wet set? Does the Beehive hair style bring back memories?

Hell Bunny Pony/ Cupcake Frock

One of the very first Pin up frocks I purchased was the Hell Bunny My Little Pony Super Sweet Cupcake dress. Now I call Dresses Frocks. Why you ask? Back in the day they were called Frocks, not sure if it's solely an Australian thing but I love the word. It carries conutations of times past, of ladies dressed in the vintage garb. It's vintage love at its best for me and makes me feel like a Pin up girl.
Now this frock, made by Hell Bunny is a vintage inspired reproduction style. Hell Bunny are known for their dresses, skirts, cardigans and belts. Their sizes range from XS to 4XL. I take an L in most Hell Bunny and this frock is an L. This frock is a halter style but I have changed to straps over the shoulder. An easy process and far more comfortable for me. There is a zip up the back and it has shirring elastic which makes the frock very comfortable. There is black and white polka dot trim around the base, the two front pockets- which is a bonus, around the waist and the neckline and the straps. There is also three black small buttons down the front of the dress which add such a vintage feel to the frock. The cupcake and little pony pattern adds a whimsical feel and a hint of two shades of pink and a small amount of Aqua. I find this dress so comfortable and it makes me feel so pretty and in a good mood. The fabric is light cotton and is well suited to Australian hot summers.
It certainly gives me a Pin up feel and due to the colour range you can accessorise with so many colours.

What Hell Bunny do you own? What's your favourite?
